The "Justicia marina y derecho internacional" research group, supported by the Observatory for Marine and Coastal Governance, carries out research activities, on ocean literacy, defense of the environment and the rights of fishing communities from a multidisciplinary approach. This work is framed within a civil society follow-up on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In particular, the research group has focused on SDGs 4, 5, 7, 13, 14, and 16 related to education, gender, energy, climate action and protection of underwater life and coasts, and peace, justice and strong institutions, respectively. The Group seeks to integrate its training activities into the Decade of the Oceans, declared by the United Nations. For this purpose, the group has the support of several researchers with masters and doctoral degrees, with publications in various subjects and with an important trajectory in terms of university teaching. The research and academic production of the group is rooted in a solid and permanent work with the local communities with which it works in a constant exercise of joint critical analysis that has an impact not only at an academic but also at a practical level.
